Our Cattle Pregnancy Testing
Here at the Pittsworth Veterinary Surgery we have the ability to provide ACV pregnancy testing tags under PREgCHECK.
The benefits of pregnancy testing far out way the costs when you look at the costs involved in running empty cows and heifers on your property. It costs about $5-10 per head depending on your area, herd size and location to have them pregnancy tested by an accredited vet.
Most annual feed and breeding costs equate to a minimum of $400 per breeder. If you test them even 6 months earlier you would save $200 per cow as well as then reaping the benefits of selling them.
So on average, if a producer found about 50 cows in their mob of 500 breeders and was able to identify them six months earlier to cull then the farmer is saving $10000 worth of feed.
Also, this is why using a vet that has qualifications (more so than a lay preg tester) can reduce the risk of having cattle incorrectly pregnancy tested due to the shear numbers and accuracy that is required to obtain their pregnancy testing tags in the first place.
The other benefit of veterinary pregnancy testing is that if we are finding an abnormally high number of empty cows, we are able to test for a number of diseases or test the bull to determine the reasons behind the low conception rate.
